Learn the basics

Teen Patti rules, without the guesswork.

Teen Patti means “three cards”. In the classic format, players compare three-card hands from a standard 52-card deck. This guide adapts the terminology for no-money learning; it is not an invitation to gamble or an app-specific rulebook.

Before the first card is dealt

Remove jokers for the classic game. Each player receives three cards; the aim is to understand which category and card ranks make a stronger hand. Traditional play includes wagering, but every example here uses imaginary, non-redeemable learning points. They cannot be bought, sold or cashed out.

Agree on the house rules first: the order of ace sequences, whether blind play is allowed, how a show works, and whether any wild cards are used. A mobile app can change these settings. If the rule panel is missing, do not assume a general guide describes that particular table.

01

Deck

52 standard cards, no jokers in the classic format.

02

Hand

Three cards per player; no five-card poker hand is formed.

03

Practice

Use fictional points or simply compare example cards—never cash.

Know the category before comparing the ace

From strongest to weakest: trail, pure sequence, sequence, colour, pair, high card. First compare the category. Only if the categories match do you compare the cards inside them. This prevents the common mistake of treating any ace-high colour as stronger than a sequence.

For example, 4♠ 5♥ 6♣ is a sequence. A♥ J♥ 7♥ is a colour. The sequence wins because its category is higher. Use the illustrated ranking guide for all six categories and tie examples.

The words you will see at a table

TermMeaning in classic playLearning takeaway
BlindContinuing without looking at the cardsThe player has less information; it is not a method for predicting the deck.
Seen / chaalPlaying after looking at the handClassic point requirements differ from blind play.
Pack / foldLeaving that roundStopping is an ordinary decision, not a failure.
ShowThe final comparison, commonly when two players remainCheck eligibility and tie rules for the specific format.
SideshowA requested comparison between eligible seen playersHouse rules can restrict or omit this action.

Classic descriptions often let a blind player contribute one to two times the current unit and a seen player contribute two to four times it. These are rules of a traditional format, not settings verified for a named app. You can understand the distinction using a paper exercise without placing any real stake.

Ending a round and dealing with ties

A classic round ends when one player remains after others pack, or when the final eligible players compare hands. Traditional show rules can give a tie to the player who did not request the show. Sideshow ties can have a different result. Some digital versions simplify or change these conventions.

Suit colour is not the same as suit. Three red cards may mix hearts and diamonds and do not form a colour. Standard category comparisons do not give spades an automatic advantage over hearts; follow the published rule set if a particular game has a special tie-break.

House rules that deserve a second look

Wild-card games, lowest-hand-wins formats and house-versus-player casino games are not interchangeable with the classic format. Read the current mode rules before using a familiar hand chart. This site covers learning, not live casino or money-game participation.

Learn in three short passes

  1. Memorise the six categories using visible example cards.
  2. Practise comparing two hands within the same category: pair first, then kicker; colour from highest card downward.
  3. Read the walkthrough and name each action before worrying about speed.
